Serbian National Team To Play A Friendly Vs Pro Hunt [LiveStream]

National Teams across Europe are currently playing each other in international friendlies, while Serbia decided to take a different approach, and is set to play imports and other European athletes gathered around Pro Hunt.

- Last year we have set a few international friendlies against other national teams, to be played this year. Our idea was to have at least 2 prep games. However, this summer, national teams scheduled to play us - started to cancel on us. Pro Hunt's founder, Darrell Tate, heard that we were looking for an opponent, and has came to us with a proposal where he'd gather his clients, and play Serbia. Of course, we accepted, since they are handling their own expenses, and we'd get to play a far superior opponent, than some of the countries we had scheduled (prior to cancellation).  - said Nikola Davidovic, in front of Serbian Association of American Football.

Pro Hunt is a recruiting agency, helping American coaches and athletes find teams in Europe. We already wrote about its founder, Darrell Tate, where we broke the story of him sneaking into Tampa Bay facility, in order to get coaches attention - for an opportunity to play in the NFL. To read the full story - click HERE.

- Our team consists of a dynamic variety of athletes with different backgrounds. I should tell you that all Pro Hunt athletes have been verified via our registration process which involves a tedious analysis of their character via online interviews. We take pride in finding humble athletes who are able to be true ambassadors for the teams they sign to. We seek to provide help to a large variety of teams, down to underdeveloped start-ups, all the way to prominent teams within the highest level.

I have decided to limit our roster at only 30 players to ensure that they get lots of playing time. Exposure is a must! Just to make sure they don't get tired, there will be heavy rotation.

One thing that all of our athletes have in common is that they want exposure. As you may already know, Serbia has very experienced athletes within the football world. Many of whom are already members of top leagues such as GFL and AFL. The is a great opportunity for our athletes to be seen in hopes of moving themselves into better opportunities within football regardless of their experience. Furthermore, it's an opportunity for Serbia to compete against a highly competitive opponent, besides their most previous opponents (Hungary and Italy).

I am extremely excited as this will be Pro Hunt's first international game. We definitely want to keep expanding and compete against other countries to broaden opportunities for our athletes. We highly encourage other league federations to join our cause in promoting athletes and developing teams within all levels of football! - said Tate.

Game is scheduled for October 29, and will be held in Belgrade, Serbia. Match will be livestreamed. And, for the athletes who may be interested to join the Pro Hunt team for this game - to be considered, register online or contact Pro Hunt via Facebook, as there are 4 open slots remaining.

Official press release - The Ekstraklasa league - Poland

20 teams, 20 cities and one league in Poland – American Football Ekstraklasa.

Such project was officially presented by the leading American Football teams in our country. In March 2018 the new league games will commence in Poland, featuring 20 teams. This initiative came from the teams, in order to push forward the sports development and present an attractive “product”, which will attract more and more supporters to follow American Football in Poland. The project was initiated by five teams: Panthers Wrocław, Seahawks Gdynia, Lowlanders Białystok, Tychy Falcons and Warsaw Sharks. Together they created a vision, followed by a clear action plan that was presented to other teams. And their reaction? One, big YES!

Jakub Głogowski, General Manager of Panthers Wrocław (Polish Champion) said:
Since the beginning of working on this project we had one objective – to create a league, that would support the development of teams, and that will become an attractive product appealing to the fans and sponsors.

The Ekstraklasa league will consist of divisions, which will compete for promotions, dropouts and the play – off stage. Such arrangement aims at equalizing the sports level and optimalisation of the games schedule.

Maciej Cetnerowski, President of Seahawks Gdynia (Polish Vice – Champion) added:
Throughout many years, there were many teams in Poland that have disappeared, or have been forced to downgrade. We are certain, that such situations are to be avoided if the new league will be based on the factual needs and possibilities of the teams. Therefore the key decisions will be made by the League Council consisting of all teams’ representatives.

Besides the League Council there will also be a separate Board and management team, employing people with significant experience in American Football in Poland.

The goal is not only to improve the sport level, but also developing important skills.

Coaching clinics, managerial trainings, best practice network and exchange of experiences – those are just a few of the elements of the recently launched plan that leads to a significant change in American Football in Poland. The junior – level league and development league (for teams preparing to join Ekstraklasa) will also play. Best teams will participate in international games and tournaments.

Piotr Morko, the President of Lowlanders Białystok said: We have been waiting for this moment for a really long time, and we believe that together with all the teams we are going to create a new quality in our sport. The sport aspect, close cooperation with Referees Association or intense sponsor search .. that is a lot of work, and we are fully aware of this. However we created this project with the most experienced teams and individuals, so we are more than ready for the challenge.

The American Football Ekstraklasa games will start on the 24th/25th of March 2018, and the final game will take place in Wrocław’s Olimpic Stadium. The detailed schedule will be announced in December 2017.

Are The Philadelphia Eagles Legitimate Super Bowl Contenders?

$

The Philadelphia Eagles have reached their bye week in week 10 and, right now, they are running away with what was supposed to be a very competitive NFC East division. From out of nowhere, they are now second favourites to lift the Vince Lombardi trophy. Despite having already come a long way already, can they go even further and win the Super Bowl?

One of the biggest reasons they have emerged as contenders has been the arrival of Carson Wentz, who has posted some tremendous numbers already. During this season, he has become a genuine NFL quarterback, and any further improvement would see him move up into the elite level, alongside some very big names. He has to prove his quality over a longer period before people start to really rate Wentz but, so far, based on this season, his chances of winning people around look to be very good.

With Wentz running the show, the Eagles have stormed to a record of 8-1 so far to lead the NFC East. They have turned what looked like a competitive division before the start of the season into a walk in the park, such has been their superiority. It is going to take a huge turnaround for them to miss the postseason and they have a great shot at making the playoffs as the number one seed.

Further wins will cement their playoff spot and that will have an impact on the odds available. Right now the Eagles are generally around 5/1 to win the Super Bowl - short odds but with little margin for error. Fans might find it prudent to take advantage of one of the many free bet offers that are available on the Oddschecker website. Not many will have fancied the Eagles at the start of the season but a lot of people are jumping on board now after seeing how they have played so far.

A divisional game away against their nearest rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, awaits the Eagles after their bye week. A win there would also advertise their Super Bowl claims yet again. It won’t be easy, but the Eagles are gaining a lot of attention for all the right reasons and they will fancy their chances against anyone in the league after their start to the 2017/18 season.

Can Anybody Stop The Pittsburgh Steelers This Season?

$

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been sensational so far in 2017. Despite some fairly sub-par quarterback play from Ben Roethlisberger early on in the campaign, Mike Tomlin’s side are now 10-2 on the year and plenty of punters are tipping the Steelers to go all the way to the Super Bowl. With Big Ben, Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell now starting to hit top form, you wouldn’t bet against another Pittsburgh triumph.

For the best part of five years, Pittsburgh’s offense has ranked highly as one of the strongest and most effective in the sport. Bell leads the league in rushing yards with 1,057 out of the backfield and then an additional 500 through the air. Meanwhile, Brown is top of the receiving category with 1,296 yards. Both men will be crucial for Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl race – especially if Big Ben maintains his own form.

Don’t forget about Pittsburgh’s newfound prowess on defense either. The Steelers are now blessed with one of the elite defensive units in the National Football League – although the injury to cornerback Joe Haden has hurt Tomlin’s side in recent weeks. As of December 5th, Pittsburgh have the second best record against the pass, allowing less than 200 yards per game, and the fourth-best total defense.

They aren’t quite at “Iron Curtain” status but Pittsburgh are certainly in the mix for Super Bowl glory, especially as they may end up pipping the New England Patriots to the number one seed in the AFC Conference. The defending Super Bowl champions have an incredible postseason record at Gillette Stadium but they are prone to slipping up on the road. Tomlin will be determined to guide his team to the top seed.

Whether the Steelers head into the playoffs as first seeds or not, one thing is for sure: this Pittsburgh outfit is set up to triumph in the winter. Tomlin knows that Bell is capable of carrying this offense but playmakers out wide, namely Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Martavis Bryant, are all competent options in the receiving game. It would certainly take a brave man to back against the Steelers, even if it is away from Heinz Field.

At the time of writing, Pittsburgh are on a seven-match winning run and that clash with the Patriots midway through December could decide the destiny of the AFC. According to odds for NFL betting on bet365, the Steelers are a 5/1 shot to win the Super Bowl this year – a tasty price for Pittsburgh fans. It looks like a two-horse race for glory in the AFC and the home-field advantage could turn out to be huge.

Mike Tomlin is a man on a mission and this Pittsburgh side are well equipped to lay down a serious challenge for a shot at the Super Bowl. Injuries hindered the Steelers last year but Bell, Brown, and Big Ben are all healthy this time around, and there is an obvious difference in momentum. Watch this space; the Steelers mean business and another championship ring could be on the cards.

After announcing the new season of CEFL Championship, SportKlub Central European Football League is on another quest. Guided by the interest of many teams who have approached the organization, we’re hanging the welcome sign for another of our competitions.

CEFL Cup was started as a project to spur the advancement of growing teams. Last season it highlighted teams from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia who have used the international stage to raise the level of their game.

For the upcoming season, CEFL has decided to lift CEFL Cup to a higher level. The objective is to grow CEFL Cup from a promotional tournament into a full-fledged cup competition for top-level teams. And several applicants have already voiced their intent to play in this knockout system.

League director, Gabriel Dielacher is excited by the opportunities: “In the shadows of our flagship tournament, CEFL Championship, we have been developing CEFL Cup in order to enable more European teams to play football on an international level.”

“Entering our 13th season driven by the impressive evolution of CEFL in recent years, we have decided to upgrade CEFL Cup from a development league to an attractive international tournament. Based on the high-class applications received so far, we are convinced that next year’s CEFL Cup will become an attractive European football event.”

“The application process is still open to new candidates who will be able to retrieve all necessary information from our website www.european-league.com. We believe CEFL Cup 2018 will offer a number of high-quality games to the football community and its sponsors.”

Serbia: Former Michigan Wolverine Joins Jagodina Black Hornets

Boubacar Cissoko was born in Guinea, but he was raised in Detroit, Michigan where he attended one of the most prestigious high schools, Cass Technical. Coming out of high school, Boubacar was ranked one of the top players in the nation. He received over 60 scholarship offers including ones from LSU, Penn State, Georgia, Tennessee...

After winning the player of the year award from state Michigan, he chose to stay in his home state and commit to the University of Michigan. Boubacar was also selected to play in the Army All American All star game.

As a true freshman, Boubacar was the starting cornerback for the Wolverines and had also seen a lot of action on special teams returning kickoffs. Though his college career ended shortly than it was expected, after facing and overcoming a lot of adversity, Boubacar started his professional career in 2012 with the Chicago Rush of the AFL. He played for multiple arena teams including the New Orleans Voodoo, Trenton Freedom, Georgia Fire and most recently in 2016 the Tri-Cities Fever.

Prior to signing with the Black Hornets, what did you know about football in Europe?
- I honestly didn't know much about it. I knew that football was played there as well, it is becoming popular in Europe. It is good that leagues allow teams to bring in American players because they can pass the knowledge of the game to their European teammates and spread the game throughout the continent.

You are an AFL veteran, what are the highlights of your indoor football career?
- I have played for many good teams in arena league, I had some good times and did a lot of good things to help my team be successful. My most memorable moments had to be in 2016. We had a good season with me earning the spot on All IFL defensive backs list accumulating 62 tackles, 6 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles.

What made you choose the Black Hornets?
- I chose the Black Hornets because it felt right from the very moment. I liked what the coach was telling me, we agreed on a lot of things, seems we were on the same page throughout the whole recruiting process. It just felt like I belong with the Black Hornets.

What do you think you bring to Jagodina?
- I will bring passion, intensity, a lot of fun for the fans to enjoy, but most of all - wins!
I will help my teammates reach their full potential and help them in any way I can, because I believe that in the game of football, teamwork is the ultimate key so success

What are your expectations for the upcoming season?
- I don't expect nothing more but to win! That's what I am here for. I believe that my teammates will all come together as one and help the Black Hornets reach the top!

Head coach Andreja Živković on Boubacar:
He was the top 5 cornerback prospect nationally, in college he went up against today's top NFL receivers such as Golden Tate, Michael Floyd... He played at the top level of indoor football and was selected to all league teams. From watching his film you can see how aggressive his playing style is, his footwork and catch-up speed are just top notch. If you take a look at his film from last season, you can see that he was given the most difficult task on defense, which is covering the motion receiver, but he made it look so easy. On top of that, Boubacar was a class act throughout the whole process and I'm confident that he will bring great success to our program.

[TD]EU Teams: Split Sea Wolves of Croatia

$

0

Sea Wolves may be an uncommon name for a football team in Europe, however, with the fact that the city of Split is located on the beautiful Croatian seaside - it all makes perfect sense. The Sea Wolves have been around for almost a decade, and they're working hard to help put football in Croatia on the map.

We were interested to hear more about the team, and Sea Wolves Headcoach - Ante Ajduk made sure to break down everything from first steps to off field activities.

Beginnings

Split Sea Wolves were formed on March 7th 2008, by Dino Bajrić, who was a big football enthusiast from Split, and Brandon Hoyback, a member of HiS Print Ministers (Texas based non profit organization that among all helps in development of football and baseball in Balkans/Eastern Europe).

Beginnings as usual are hard, especially when you are trying to "push" a sport that is not usual in this area. Doing something new, in soccer crazed environment, especially when it's an American sport is hard and you are gonna probably end up being ridiculed. Our enthusiasm about this sport is not going to be taken seriously, as people are going to assume that we just want to be trendy or doing something ‘American’ is a cool thing. Also, people prefer rugby as a traditional European contact sport. So, there was a lot of judgment in the beginning.

Having that in mind and knowing that not a lot of people know about this sport makes it hard to even find fellow enthusiasts. Most of recruits were found by random luck. A lot of football fans didn’t even know that there was a football club in our town. Slowly but steady we kept gathering bigger and bigger fan and player’s base, at first through verbal recommendations and after with social media and later through regional TV sports channels that started to broadcast the NFL. Also it’s interesting how many youngsters we get from just playing Madden video game.

Keeping in mind previously said, sponsors were nowhere to be found. First sponsors we got was after winning Croatian Football League on 2016. It was followed by local media and so we got attention for being Champions. First sponsors were people that followed us in the process and decided to help out, so that we can afford just be able to go to away games or pay the soccer field for home games. Getting sponsorships is hard, but we are trying to find an angle that can benefit both sides. We try to thank them and promote them whenever and wherever is possible.

Now, after we defended the title by winning CroBowl VI, things haven’t changed much, so it’s a struggle from month to month. If we had proper financial support, we would be already playing CEFL. Split Sea Wolves have big plans, a lot of passion for this sport and competition, but unfortunately without proper financial support we are limited.

Gearing Up

We are thankful to have support from HiS Print Ministers, an organization from Texas that is operating in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. They give us a visit once a year in the summer time and we have an annual football camp. Also, each year, they send a full container from Texas to Croatia and supply football clubs in this region with equipment. Without them and their support we wouldn’t be able to do what we do, and come to this place where we are the first back to back champions. We use every bit of equipment that they send and, also share with other clubs what we have extra. But it’s not only about equipment, they are huge moral support and great guidance through whole process.

Having equipment is half of the job, field and place to practice is a whole another story. We don’t have our own field and we don’t get any support from the local community or local clubs to help us out with allowing us to practice. We have to pay for each practice and home games - we play 35 kilometers away, just because it’s either expensive to pay for those few hours or they just don’t want to let us use the field. Playing a sport, living healthy and teaching kids true sportsmanship shouldn’t be penalized in any possible way, it should be supported.

First practice was hard, few people with one football on a parking lot with limited knowledge. It was fun, although it didn’t look like a proper practice, but as time passed more and more, people got involved and with time we managed to learn few things about football. We were lucky to have Chad Waibel, an American who moved to Split, as our coach, because he played college football (played Rose Bowl). Mario Penić was our offensive coordinator and Ante Ajduk as defensive coordinator. After a while we were left with Ante Ajduk as HQ, coaching both offense and defense, and the end result was winning first championship in 2016.

Competing

We are competing in both flag and tackle Croatian Championship. We ended up 3rd in flag football this year and we were 1st in tackle. It was a long season full of challenges, and we really wanted to defend title from 2016. It was hard and challenging to finish this season and pull it all out.

We are blessed to have a unique set of players in our team, we are so diverse and yet everyone has the same human qualities. Before everything, we are a family, we are friends and we got each others back no matter what. Yes, we can argue and drop a few words during the game, but we take care of each other and we are all brothers in this team, and that is what makes difference when hard times come.

We lose games, we get outplayed, but we are a coherent group that always finds a way back.

One thing is for sure, we don’t give up and we do our best when it's the hardest. Pure example was this season. We entered competition as title defenders, we were full of confidence and started with 2 wins and then we were surprised with a loss against Zaprešić Saints (who we played in finals). We lost a lot in that game, a lot of player got injured and we had to play wild card game for the finals against Zagreb Patriots. We had to play without 5 starters, among them was our only ready-to-play QB and our star RB. We showed character and our desire to win, by winning in that game, and we did it for our teammates, we wanted them to have that finals.

We are friends and brothers on and off football field and we spend a lot of time together.

The People

As we said above, we are all brothers. It took some time to filter out this team, but we spent few years together now. We do get new faces, also good people, and they see friendly and supporting atmosphere in the club and they are happy to stay. We do crack jokes and do occasional surprises/pranks, but no matter what, we are here for each other.

We have an annual Christmas party and Christmas flag tournament, which is a nice way to have fun, hang out and have a short relief from a tough season.

Community

As we are limited, there is not a lot that we can do, but we are trying to be active and help community whenever we can. There are some projects regarding orphanage and shelter for homeless people and we try to participate as much as we can. We are open to help any valid cause. We just want to point out that we don’t like to mention it (like now) and that we just hope that we could do more.

Fans & Support

It is still hard, and both football and Sea Wolves are on their beginnings here in Croatia. People heard about us since we won two titles, but that’s about it. It’s hard to make a fan base in your own home town - when you are not able to even play there.

We do have few sponsors and we are beyond thankful on their support: HIS-Print Ministers, Nichi, Hell Energy Adria, Carlsberg Croatia.

We are still struggling to maintain functioning of the club and we have zero support from our City and government institutions. Slowly but steadily football is becoming recognized in Croatia as solid men’s game and that really helps us in lifting awareness of our existence.

Looking Back

As it always goes in life hard work really pays off. Eventhough we are doing a good thing, promoting and playing the sport, and getting kids involved, we still get hammered by our surroundings. No place to practice, no support, no understanding, but in the end when you lift that trophy and see happiness on players faces - you know that it was worth it, it’s even sweeter then.

We still make a lot of mistakes since you can still consider that we are at the beginning of forming a serious football club, but we fix it as we grow. A lot of issues have to be solved, such as our own football field, stable source of income, sponsors, etc. We are trying to do our best and almost every member is participating in developing our club since we all have regular jobs and life outside of football.

Our organizational scheme is consisted of seven so called board members that we elect once a year and each member has it’s own field of work, once a month we hold meetings and everyday tasks are discussed online and so far things work out.

Wroclaw Panthers vs Imports - What Happened In Wroclaw?

Photo: Sebastian Stankiewicz

In the past few days, while most is focused on playoffs and finals (and while TDEU is on a break!), one event took the American football community in Europe by storm. Wroclaw Panthers imports went missing. At the time, we contacted Wroclaw to get some information on what happened, however, the only response was that if we manage to find out anything - we should let them know.

There were numerous rumors circling around on what went down between the organization and their import players, however, the other day, Morovick, Panthers (now former) QB put out a statement on his Instagram account.

And, Morovick was right. Why would two imports decide to leave the organization right before the playoffs? Panthers weren't open for an official statement, so we had to start digging.

What we managed to obtain was that the organization noticed their imports were missing, after they didn't show up for a summer camp (where they were supposed to be coaches). Actually, the imports were there for the first portion of it, during Day 1 (Camp was 2 days, 2 practices a day, the imports showed up for 1 practice). After going to the apartment, team found hand written notes from the imports, in the form of a resignation. After that, the locks on the apartment were changed, due to the breach of contract, which  was signed prior to the season. Not too long after, apartment got broken into - and the police was informed. Supposedly, the imports came back to the apartment, to take some of their belongings, and as they didn't want to contact anyone from the team - they broke into the apartment.

Some of the issues were - car being taken away from the imports, as well as the catering being cancelled. From what we could find out is that both the car and catering were a bonus that the team provided for the imports, and that those were not mentioned in the contract. After 5 or so months, car had to be returned to the company that was renting it, while the catering stopped as the company resigned from the deal.

Due to still not being able to get in touch with the imports, and after the resignation letter on the fridge - team has cancelled the return flights for the imports, as the contractual obligations stopped for both parties.

There were more rumors circling, however, we believe it should only be focused on the main ones, as this is a grey zone between the team and their, now, former players.

At the moment, the 2 imports are seeking new teams. We do believe a release form will be needed in order to be able to sign with a new team during this season. While Panthers, due to how late in the season they are - will not be able to replace the import players with new ones.  - What we're trying to say is that - both parties are now hurting, and we hope that this situation will be resolved the best possible way for both ends.

Brown Hopes To Lead His Team To Iceland

Hall of Famer QB Micah Brown has recently retired from football in Europe, however, that didn't stop him to continue help football grow - in Canada. After his teams first season being right behind us, Brown is working on getting his team over to Iceland.

The Halifax Harbour Hawks is a developmental football program representing Nova Scotia, in the Maritime Football League and was established to provide athletes the opportunity to play quality football. The Harbour Hawks are committed to providing quality coaching and experience while defining the skillsets needed for these athletes to pursue their university and professional careers or just further their playing experience. Program operates as a university/professional atmosphere and has been made possible by the support from around the city from companies and individuals, which highly offset the team’s operating expenses.

Einhejrar is the only American football team in Iceland. "Einherjar team president came across the Halifax Harbour Hawks livestream and social media posts. It sparked an interest in him to reach out to me to inquire if we’d be interested in playing an international game in Iceland" says Micah Brown, and continues - "I’m extremely excited! This is literally just the beginning! This was our inaugural season and we were very successful in operating and providing the environment we ensured the coaches, players and fans would have.

I remind our players that this program that their apart of is special in many ways. One being that in Atlantic Canada, that this is the only football that can be played, aside from high school or university. The other being that this is MORE than “just football”! The character, camaraderie, community, etc that this sport incumbents and builds reaches far beyond the gridiron. This opportunity exemplifies that to the fullest! This is an opportunity for our team to play in an international game, in Iceland!

Furthermore, from the information that has been collected, this would be the first for a Canadian based football team to play a game outside of North America! That’s something teams in the CFL haven’t done!"

- Swarco Raiders Tirol, Champions of Austria, two time CEFL Bowl XIII Champions, and European Superfinal game Champions,
- Thonon Black Panthers, Vice Champions of France,
- Wroclaw Panthers, Vice Champions of LFA Poland.

These teams are amongst Europe’s leading football programs and are well known brands throughout the continent. Listing every trophy in their cases would be a tough assignment, so the list mentions only their latest accomplishments. They will be grouped in 2 conferences, 3 teams in the Western and 4 teams in the Eastern, playing their games in line with the following schedule:

Western Conference
13 April Swarco Raiders Tirol – Thonon Black Panthers
11 May Milan Seamen – Swarco Raiders Tirol
25 May Thonon Black Panthers – Milan Seamen

Eastern Conference
13 April Wroclaw Panthers – Calanda Broncos
Kragujevac Wild Boars – Istanbul Koc Rams
27 April Calanda Broncos – Kragujevac Wild Boars
Istanbul Koc Rams – Wroclaw Panthers
11 May Calanda Broncos – Istanbul Koc Rams
Wroclaw Panthers – Kragujevac Wild Boars

Teams in both conferences will all play each other once. This guarantees 2 games to each team in the Western Conference, and 3 contests to members of the Eastern Conference. Conference champions will play in CEFL Bowl XIV, on 8 June, and the hosting will be awarded during the season.

In addition to this, CEFL intends to continue last years’ fruitful cooperation with IFAF. CEFL will give its contribution to a unified IFAF League of Champions where the finalists would play a crown game for the best team in Europe.

At the same time with the Championship, CEFL is in the process of forming another one of its competitions. CEFL Cup, a knockout tournament that assembled some very strong contestants last season has proven to be a resounding success with the teams. This year, a record number of participants from all parts of the continent are interested to join in.

With both of its competitions bringing more games than ever, CEFL fans will truly be in for a treat in the coming season.

Sometimes, we take young coaches for granted. Most of the times - they surprise us. Just like Vojin Milić did. The Serbian who hasn't even hit the "big" 3-0 (in years), is already a football veteran from Belgrade, with 11 championships won under his belt  - is now pursing a coaching career. And, it looks like that becoming a coach will be just as successful, and even more, than him under the gear.

The Sudden Change

By the end of the 2017. we already began our offseason program. We had our HC and imports signed, but as always, we started without them because they arrived around month later. We were missing the OC, and import QB was late due to personal issues. On the other side, beside TE and WR, I was the backup QB, and also played all those positions for National Team. I was coached by different coaches with college and NFL experience, so I had a chance to see different styles of the game. So temporary, I took all of the duties of the Offensive Coordinator and since I do not have a ton of experience with it, the organization as big as Vukovi are, decided to bring in former Vukovi Coach Barnes to serve as the OC.

He was not there for too long, he left the team to join a college program back in the US. At that point I earned the trust of our HC Malik Jackson, and talking with the board, I got a chance to be the Offensive Coordinator for Vukovi for 2018. season. Previously, I coached Youth and Junior programs with some success, but this was something else, it was a great challenge for me!

Earning Respect

In my case it was not so hard to gain respect of the players because I shared the field with them for so many years. They are well aware of my effort and dedication, and playing TE and QB gave me an opportunity to showcase all that. In a sense, Football is like war, if you bleed with your teammates, you will be brothers for life.

In the beginning, there was a period of adjustment from my side. I did not know how will they react to my authority. But as mentioned, I went through good and bad with guys from OL and skill position, so it was a smooth transition. We had a same goal from day one. We wanted to be strong Offense that puts a lot points on the board. They are awesome guys and great players, so my job was easy!

Proud Moments

The biggest moment for me was the CEFL Cup Finals. We played Gdynia Seahawks, and offense did phenomenal. We scored on every possession! Players were very motivated, because we did not win a trophy since 2014. Everyone was on the same page and ready to execute. I was very proud!

Toughest Moments

Tough time, of course, were the Serbian League Finals. After only 7 points and two turnovers inside the 10yd line in first half, and also heavy injury one of our OL players, it was hard to pick the team up. We did dome adjustments, and did much better in the second half. We scored 28 more points, and had a chance for a comeback, but, the game is played for 48 minutes, not just 24.

For sure, I can say, that second half is the real Vukovi team. Strong play, team spirit, that's the same thing that will lead us next year to defend the CEFL Cup and win back the Serbian League. Losing the Championship game was hard for my players and me, but I'm still proud to be the coach of that Vukovi generation. Every loss is a learning lesson, I got mine, and for sure I will do much better job next year!

Young Coaches

It's is very important that coach understand his players. To know them well, and let them adjust football with everything going on in their lives. Also as a player, I saw some coaches implementing an offense, that does not suit the skill of the players that we have.

So, I think that is very important part, to shape the playbook to your personnel, create a very strong base, and from there implement more staff that will allow you to play some more complex stuff.

For 12 years I was collecting knowledge and writing notes, in order to get to know football better. Never have I believed those notes will help me put together a modern playbook that will be great for this level. Also, huge part is practice. Using creativity to help players improve their game. With coach Adkins, I realized that as many reps as you can get, and putting yourself in game situation will allow you to progress faster. We scored 41 point per game, and played very well in second halves what was the area where team struggled in previous years.

What Does The Future Hold

Plan for the future is to be the coach. If there is a need, I will also play, but as of right now, all my focus is on coaching. It's something that I have great passion for, and motive to work with a lot of different players.

It would be great if European Coaches have some kind of network to share experiences, or to organize seminars, because that is also a great way how we can get better. Just picking the brain of other minds and getting to know their philosophies. In 2019, I will try to visit some big European teams as a guest, and just to see how they run things from organization stand point.

Germany: Allgäu Comets Sign Coach Jeff Scurran

After a rocky road in the past 2-3 years, Allgäu Comets are taking the spotlight with a big signing. Coach Jeff Scurran is set to take over the Comets football program for the upcoming season.

Coach Scurran has an extensive experience coaching high school football in The States, with the record of 273-84-2. He has been named Coach Of The Year 15 times, in 4 states and State All-Star Coach 4 times. He was the NFL-SCA National Coach Of The Year in 2007-08.

- We loved our time in Florence. The people We’r great and Florence is a special place. I had friends in Germany who knew the situation for the Comets and thought we’d be a good match. They recommended me to the team, that’s how we started talking. But my family came to the USA from Bavaria, so we were always interested in that area and we’ve vacationed there many times. - says Coach Scurran, who is right now working with the staff to get organized and assess the situation.

- The Comets made the playoffs last year with an interim coach taking over midway. He did a wonderful job with the team. I plan on building from what he started. I also want to treat the dedicated players to a “real view” of American football; how we practice, prepare, work and become a team. That is my initial goal.

It's without a doubt that Coach Scurran will turn the Comets program around for better.

CEFL Teams: Thonon Black Panthers of France

When talking about a well respected rock-solid organization, Thonon Black Panthers are right there on top of that list. We had a great chat with Black Panthers' president, Benoit Sirouet, who gave us more insight on the Panthers' first steps in American football, as well as what makes his team - a team.

The current vice-champion of France will travel to Tirol, where they'll face SWARCO Raiders on April 13th, while on May 25th, Milan Seamen will be headed to Thonon.

Beginnings

The Thonon les Bains /Black Panthers/ were founded in 1987, by the current club president Benoit Sirouet and his predecessor Jérôme Garnier, with two others friends Nicolas Schopliansky et Frederic Meriguet. Since its creation, the club has grown from a small group of football enthusiasts to an organization that features both flag and tackle teams in several age categories.

The senior team currently competes in the French first national division or the “Casque de Diamant” – literally translated as the “Diamond Helmet”. The season runs from February until June and features a 10 game schedule, a national semi-final, and a championship game, all played under NCAA rules. In 2007, both the junior and senior squads reached their respective finals for the second time in club history.

National Champions 2004 Div 2, National Champions 2013, 2104, Eurpean champions 2013 (EFAF Cup) 2017 (EFL).

Thonon les Bains is nestled between Lake Geneva (the largest lake of Western Europe) and the Northern Alps. With 35000 residents, it is the largest of the French cities on the shores of the lake. Its central location provides an ideal springboard for brief sightseeing excursions: Thonon is only a 20 minute drive from Switzerland and a one hour drive from Northern Italy. Geneva’s international airport (50 minutes) offers several low cost flights to major destinations across the continent.

First “sponsor” was the City of Thonon, with a large contribution to our team over the years.

Gearing Up

First practice was in 1987, on a sand field without any equipment.

First coach in 1987, Bruno Jolly, with a small experience between 1984 and 1987 with the team of then Anges Bleus de Joinville le Pont (near Paris).

Today, with the support of the city of Thonon, the club benefits from some of the finest facilities of any American football squad in all of Europe. While field-time is at a premium throughout Europe, our squad benefits from exclusive use of a beautiful grass field with an adjacent locker room.

Over the years, the club has made solid investments in field equipment and now boasts of three sleds, in addition to all the requisite light practice material (shields, bags, ropes, etc). Only a stones throw from the field are the club’s office, clubhouse and bar, a small video room, and the equipment room.

Over the years, a number of North-American players and coaches have brought their skills and love of the game to Thonon-les-Bains. Indeed, since the early 1990s, the Black Panthers have yearly recruited import players to boost their senior roster. First north American Head coach was Patrick Gregory (from Bishop University).

Competing

Today, we have 6 programs actively competing. We have around 250 players and 20 coaches.

Flag +17 (regional competition) - U14 (regional competition) – U16 (regional competition) – U19 (National Competition) – Senior women team (Regional competition) – Senior (1st division and CEFL).

The People

Our secret to success: Working in a professional environment with a family spirit, for 31 years.

We compete at the highest level for the smallest town in competition (national and European). This is what surprises the football community.

Photo: Guillaume Mouchet

Community

This is an important point. The most important thing for 30 years - was for us to win the trust of partners, volunteers and the entire community.

We are present on all events in our city that helped us grow. We are present on many events in the region; and we organize many charity actions.

You have to give a lot, in order to receive a little!

Fans & Support

It's always easier to be supported after being successful and gaining people's trust.

Today, the club has help of more than 50 volunteers, 3 full-time employees, 80 private partners, in addition to the city of Thonon, the Haute-Savoie department and the Auvergne region Rhône Alpes for a budget of 530 000 euros. Each part cited is essential to the operation. It is our legacy of 30 years of work and stability.

Photo: Guillaume Mouchet

Looking Back

The lesson is that you have to keep the trust of people and decision makers.

Work by their side, help them and not think only of their project; it must be integrated into the society around us. We correct team and everyday mistakes; We must animate the team of leaders, give them the desire to give the best to their club because they are proud of it.

Today, we are recognized and respected to be put forward by our partners, because they are proud of us. You have to know how to seize the good opportunities and give them the means.

In 2005, the arrival of Larry Legault (Canadian HC from 2005 to 2016), was the best thing that happened to this club. He helped us structure it, guide it in a respectful work ethic. Larry paved the way for what this club is today: respect and envy.

Is The UK Ready For A London-Based NFL Team?

$

0

Europe has always been the “unconquered” soil for the NFL. Eventhough the game keeps rapidly expanding across the old continent, and the fan base is constantly growing – there are no NFL teams based in Europe.

Years ago, NFL started a project called – NFL Europe. It wasn't really successful. Monetizing was the problem. Maybe if the NFL had the resources such as social media, online streaming etc., NFL Europe could have been a success.

Nevertheless, NFL made sure to keep its foot in Europe, by hosting few games a year in London, starting with the Wembley Stadium, and later adding the Twickenham Stadium. And, they hit the jackpot. Londong is known as a sporting city, with too many media outlets to choose from, which brings in loads of sponsors. Tickets are getting sold out, and fans across Europe travel to London just for these games. So far, Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Chargers, Oakland Raiders etc., traveled to UK.

Imagine supporting the actual NFL EU team by placing wagers on the best UK betting sites, which some of them are actually offering the chance to place a free bet. Wearing your NFL EU team gear. It would take a lot to convert the European NFL fan base to actually support this team, and it would take a lot of hard work/belief that this team could actually be competitive all year round.

So, could London actually have its own London-based NFL team?. Time zones may play a significant role, as even now, some of the current NFL teams keep declining to travel to London. However, European players could have a bigger chance to get noticed, who wouldn’t want to take a big step right into the NFL?

We believe that if a realistic chance of such a team winning the Superbowl would exist – NFL London team would happen.

Forbes believes that UK is ready for an NFL team.

CEFL Teams: SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol of Austria

Back in 1992, history was being made in Austria - the birth of the idea to start the Raiders (founded 1993). SWARCO RAIDERS have constantly been one of the best organizations in Europe. SWARCO is the two time back to back CEFL Champion (2017, 2018); and they're coming back in 2019 to defend the title.

Beginnings

There was no American Football in Tyrol before 1992. Some young students were attending a soccer game and were kind of bored. They missed American Football which they knew from the town where they studied before. So Gerwin Wichmann and his friends decided to form an American Football team. There was no internet, no mobile phones, no social media. They printed some flyers which they spread around.

On September 15, 1992, the birthday of the Raiders, a group of “greenhorns” met for the first time to discuss the founding of an American Football team in Innsbruck. After months of preparations, Gerwin Wichmann along with other people founded the Raiders. Only few of them knew about the rules, but they put a lot of effort into training and the sport, so they joined the Austrian American Football Association which is called AFBOE.

American football has a long and successful history in Innsbruck since then. It happened that Gerwin Wichmann met Guenther Bangratz, who co-owned a restaurant chain. Gerwin told him about American Football and the brand new Club and convinced Guenther to sponsor the Raiders. From there the team got their equipment AND had a new name: AFC Papa Joe´s Raiders West.

In their first year they won all games and were honored to be the „newcomer of the year“.

In 1997, the Raiders made their way up to the Austrian Football League, the highest division in the country. In their third season in the AFL the Raiders advanced to their first Austrian Bowl, losing 28-34 to Vienna in the final. The following year they participated in the European Football League (EFL) for the very first time.

After another 2nd place finish in 2001, the Tyroleans finally won the national championship in 2004. They also won the EFAF Cup that year. The Raiders repeated that success in 2006, again winning the Austrian Bowl. It was the first season the team went under the name SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol. In 2008, it´s ten years now, Elisabeth Swarovski became the president of the SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol.

They played two more times in the Austrian Bowl (2008, 2010), but had their finest hours in the 2008 Eurobowl, winning the European crown for the very first time. The Tyroleans repeated as Eurobowl champions in 2009. In 2011 they celebrated the team’s best season ever, winning the Austrian Bowl and the Eurobowl. It was the first year under head coach Shuan Fatah, who led the Tyroleans to six more championship finals in 2012, 2013, 2015 in a historical 38:0 Win over Vienna Vikings, 2016 and 2018 in a thrilling 51:48 Win over the Vikings again.

Photo: Swarco Raiders Tirol, 1996

Gearing Up

It is amazing that the training situation is pretty much the same now as it was in the beginning. Not the physical training, but - unfortunately - the training place.

The Raiders don´t have their own field. But there will be a big chance within the next two years: The
SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol will get their own stadium in Innsbruck. For about 15 years the Raiders management worked for this project. In the end the success not only in Austria, but throughout Europe and the effort the Raiders put into the youth programme convinced the politicians of Innsbruck and of Tyrol to make this project come true.

The SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol are looking forward to giving the athletes the surrounding they need to train for the success.

Photo: Bernhard Hörtnagl

Competing

The Raiders can´t get enough of competitions. They play in the top of Austria league, the AFL (Austrian Football League), international in the Central European Football League (CEFL) and in the Battle4Tirol, a competition, which the Raiders invented to play against American College Teams. 2018 was an incredible year. The Raiders won every competition they were taking part of:

1. Austrian Bowl Champion
2. CEFL Champion
3. Winner of the Superfinal between the NEFL and CEFL
4. Battle4Tirol against the Central Dutch College IOWA

SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol programmes
The youth programme is one of the most important things. It starts with kids aged 6 until 18 years. They learn discipline, team work and take the benefit of sports. They offer:

- Tackle Football
- Flag Football
- Cheerleading - Dance and Cheer
- and brand new: since October there is a Basketball Team too!

Photo: Bernhard Hörtnagl

Highs & Lows

After a big start in 1993, there was a very difficult year in 2003. The team only had 20 players left and it seemed the club could go down. Then the management made an important decision. They didn't go back, they went one step further: a second team was built.

This team still exists and it´s called the SWARCO RAIDERS JV. JV stands for Junior and Varsity. It was just perfect because in 2004, the Raiders won the national championship! The SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol never rest, always work for success and fight ´til the end - 4th quarter last play - as Coach Shuan Fatah never gets tired to tell the players.

CEFL Teams: Wroclaw Panthers of Poland

Photo: Rafał Skuła

Ever since the team was formed by a merger of a few local teams, Wroclaw Panthers have been moving the bar higher and higher. From organizational side, flawless marketing to team development. Without any doubts, Wroclaw can easily be ranked as one of the top 10 European teams at the moment.

Kuba Glogowski, Panthers General Manager, shares the team story.

Beginnings

When you think about football in Wroclaw, you need to think about two different beginnings. One was the time when The Crew Wroclaw/Giants Wroclaw and Devils Wroclaw competed for the polish title until 2013. After 3 out of 4 national titles in a row stayed in Wroclaw both organizations came to the same conclusion – fighting against one another is nice if we want to stay a small sport. If we want to grow we need to compete in Europe and to do that we need to GROW UP – meaning working together.

With that being said after several months of planning the Panthers Wroclaw were brought into the spotlight. The new team not only merged the best players in the country, but also merge two big corporate sponsors – Tarczynski SA and Mitutoyo Polska.

That gave the club the financial security it needed to get on a completely different level. The new team was announced on a press conference, the players got the information a day earlier. It was all a master-plan in the making.

The upcoming years have shown that this was (despite many initial opinions) the best possible decision and only the beginning of an Era. The expectation was a championship within the first year, unfortunately that never happened, as it was proved that merging a team with so much character isn’t an overnight process. After a loss in the national final in 2014, Panthers knew the merger was only the top of the ice berg of work.

Photo: Rafał Skuła

Gearing Up

Merging two teams meant merging the gear and everything in possession of both organizations. Everything was thought through. We knew that the only coach that can get a group of players, who usually spent their time trash talking to each other, would be a coach who knew them all. That left the club with one option – Mott Gaymon. A person who worked with both Giants and Devils, and was highly respected by everybody involved in football in Poland. His mentality and work ethic was the perfect fit for the teams ultimate goal – be the best in Poland and become one of the best in Europe.

First practices, of course, weren’t a walk in the park. It took the players some time to get along. But their hunger for success made them do things that couple months earlier wouldn’t even go through their minds. Of course, many players quit the team when they understood that being a Panther will mean working hard everyday. It was said from day one - that if someone is a player for social media reasons – he isn’t needed. The best were picked and thought for the A team, the rest joined the B team fighting in a lower division. After the loss in the 2014 final, club decided Mott Gaymon’s mission is done. He did his job and it was time for the next step. Nick Johansen was picked as the new HC. He not only brought tons of European coaching experience, but also shown ways in which the organization must grow to become elite. The process continued.

The whole scenery shifted in 2017, when after couple years of playing and practicing all over Wroclaw, thanks to The World Games 2017, the Olympic Stadium was finished - and the Panthers got the best American football stadium in Europe. High quality turf, permanent lining, goalposts and a great back-office base with offices, a club gym and conference rooms - transferred the organization to a whole different dimension.

Photo: Maciej Lulko

Competing

Being competitive is the first thing players must understand when joining the Panthers organization. Our team is built for success and the road to it, it shows we eat, sleep and work. That means hard work on every level: player, coach, management. Everybody is here to win a championship and only by doing the best possible in every area we can achieve that. We are not looking over our shoulder about polish football clubs. In Poland we look at mainstream sports and in Europe we look at clubs that are here for over 20 years or longer than we are, and we know we are gaining ground every year.

We teach ourselves and make sure that each failure becomes the motivation to become even better. That mentality allowed us to make a comeback after back to back losses in the national final (2014 and 2015) to not only win the next championship, but also organize and win the IFAF Europe Champions League, which probably till now is one of the biggest shockers in the history of football in Europe.

What also separates us from many national organization is the emphasis we put on our junior program. With 5 straight national championships and over 20 players already playing in the first team that started their road as a baby Panther(s), we know that working with the youth is the most crucial thing you can do.

Photo: Rafał Skuła

The People

Our team is crazy, we can probably make that statement. At least in Poland there is no other football organization that brings together such crazy personalities. We sometimes say that if you think you've seen your players do it all – just give them another day. The players are really bonded together. Even the new players coming in from other teams/cities are being drag into the family really fast (well at least after they survive the rookie show at the spring camp). The first thing you notice joining practice is to show how hard we work. If you like it, you might actually make it.

Even the imports are a part of the family, if they prove they want to be in this team and show 100% effort and trust (which as we know isn’t always so obvious). We are a young organization, which is run by people with a fresh and bright mind. That allows us to do things better than basketball or volleyball clubs in Poland. Especially when it comes to marketing and PR of the sport.

Photo: Wroclaw Panthers

Community - WrocLOVE

As I've said earlier, the PR part of the sport is really crucial to our organization. We work with the city, cooperate with other clubs, visit schools and organizations gathering children. Whenever we have a chance to take part in charity - we do. It’s hard to count how many events we do every year.

If we only have time - we love to show how proud and thankful we are for the city of Wroclaw, and always want to show that being open and being everywhere possible is what is important in sport. Sport in Poland often doesn’t get that and is closed, but we’re working to show that giving back is the only way to go.

Photo: Maciej Lulko

Fans & Support - Panthers Nation

When you look at the names of club sponsors, you can see that it’s not a small activity. We gather companies and brands that are known all over Poland, but also all over the world: Tarczyński, Mitutoyo Polska, KFC, Toyota, Tyskie, Hard Rock Cafe, Fitbit - those are only some of the names that people know. That comes with an extra load of other big companies like Naszbus.com, Mineral Zdrój, Triada and many others who are helping our organization to grow and achieve our goals. Of course, the city of Wroclaw also supports us every year, which we are thankful for.

At the end of the day, we do it for the fans. They are the biggest thank you we can get for our work. The fanbase is growing every year, with football having more attendance than basketball or handballs games in Wroclaw. Our fan club is just crazy! They travel everywhere with us. They even went to Amsterdam and now they are planning their trip to Turkey. We love Panthers Nation, and we do as much as possible for them.

Photo: Rafał Skuła

Looking Back

As mentioned before, we grow every year. We don’t get one day we think we are at the top, since we are used to getting the bar for ourselves higher every year. We are our own biggest opponent – meaning we always want to do better than we did yesterday.

Right now, we can say we are at our best, but in a couple of months, that will already be in the past. With a new coaching staff, a great and battle tested management and sponsors who help us not only financially, but also with their business knowledge, we know that we can achieve big things.

The plans are already in our heads, now it is time to get them going. And, last but not least, we live by the rule „what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger” - so when you think when we lose we take a step back, we know losing is a part of the process and we will win as much as possible.

France: Les Gones de Lyon Lose Everything Due To Fire

$

0

About a month ago - Les Gones de Lyon of France has lost almost everything. As cliche as it sounds, team truly did lose most of gear in the possession due to a fire. To put it in digits, around 45,000 euro worth of equipment.

On the night between Oct 22th and 23rd, firefighters were called by the park security, where team had 2 containers stored. These containers held team gear and uniforms, as well as the drink stand for game days. Out of the 2 containers - the one which had the gear stored was the one that was caught by the fire.

- We know it was NOT due to natural causes, as the locker in place was nowhere to be found. We are still waiting for the investigation to go forward. - says Kevin Greiss, Lyon communications manager - It is a devastating situation as we lost somewhere around 45,000 euro worth of equipment. We just moved up in the league, to D2, and we were hoping to start the off-season program, however, now it's a race to catch up.

Kevis also added that the American football community has been nothing but supportive - It's unbelievable how the community responded, and how far they could be, and could go. We have received help from various French clubs, as well as teams from Switzerland, Canada and The States. They offered us various equipment - from dummies, shields, yardage material etc.

The team has been holding up, they had to regroup, and now players are also coming in to help with club management.

Also, organization is still in need of equipment/funds donations - and anything can make a big  difference! If you can help, 5-10eur can mean a lot! Please go to the donations page - CLICK HERE.
